Preliminary task:
Illustration / concept art
No time constraint | WEIGHTING included in the Visual Storytelling test (see below).
Task: Develop a character and a setting based on a given constraint.
Objective: To assess the ability to create a graphic proposal in the form of an illustration from a specific instruction.
Tip: Practice drawing scenes from non-illustrated texts, as illustrated ones may overly influence your work.
Exam day task
Visual storytelling
1 hour 30 minutes | weighting 20%
Task: Develop a script and storyboard based on a given constraint. The character created in the preparation phase (1/2) will need to be placed in a setting.
Objective: To assess the ability to break down a story, illustrate the key sequences, and create a storyboard that incorporates the work from the Illustration / Concept Art task (see above).
Tips: Practice breaking down non-illustrated stories, and analyse shot compositions in films/series based on the dramatic context.
Exam day task
Observational drawing
1 hour 30 minutes | weighting 18%
Task: Faithfully reproduce a still life.
Objective: To assess the ability to respect framing, object proportions, perspective, and details.
Tips: Observation is a complex process that requires regular practice. We recommend you practice drawing everyday objects and (if possible) attend observational drawing classes. It is also important to separate the object from its function and focus solely on its visual representation.
